Leadership

Small Business Board

The Small Business Board (SBB) contributes to the overall mission of the Chamber by providing advice and counsel to Chamber staff and management on policy and programming from the perspective of the owners and executives of small to mid-sized growth-oriented businesses.

Advocacy

The Chamber actively lobbies on a wide range of issues related to economic competitiveness. Small businesses can utilize the Chamber’s advocacy team to make connections between business owners and city and state officials and provide insight into, and clarification on, new legislation and regulations when they are released.

Ongoing Advocacy Priorities (As of April 2017)

Federal

• Advocate for comprehensive tax reform including a competitive tax structure for both the individual and corporate income tax rates, ensures simplicity for small business compliance, and provides long-term certainty to enable business decisions to expand or hire.

• Reauthorize the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. Adopt reforms that enable and increase the allocation of grants to small businesses for commercialization activities.

State

• Advocate for small businesses in Harrisburg to address business tax competitiveness issues that contribute to the low rate of job creation in Pennsylvania.

• Work to ensure a fair regulatory business climate and lobby on legislation affecting health insurance, workforce development, and economic development.

City of Philadelphia

• Advocate for a more competitive local tax environment, including reductions in wage and business taxes.

• Promote processes that ease doing business in Philadelphia, including online permitting and increased coordination among City departments.

• Call for continued investments in neighborhood commercial corridors to support small business growth.

• Work to enhance the City's regulatory climate by reducing burdensome regulations through our work on the Special Committee for Regulatory Review and Reform

• Actively engage in the legislative process by submitting feedback on pending legislation and providing testimony on bills that affect economic growth and competitiveness
