Various social factors determine a neighborhood’s health, including crime, life expectancy disparities, and substance use disorder. If Philadelphia is going to reduce its poverty rate — the highest among the nation’s big cities — it needs to address these issues.

According to recent analyses by the City of Philadelphia, “people living in poverty are more likely…to have shorter life spans” and reducing gun violence could “translate into millions of dollars more in property value and tax revenue,” adding further incentive for residents and businesses to foster safe and prosperous communities.

At this Roadmap for Growth issue forum, learn how local businesses and organizations are addressing social determinants of community health.
