Congratulations to our Super Bowl Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles have been esteemed Chamber members since 1947. With a relationship spanning over 70 years, the Chamber values the Eagles' commitment to the Greater Philadelphia business community. From their participation as a host company for Future Ready, where they engage Philadelphia middle school students about future career opportunities, to their President, Don Smolenski, serving on the Chamber Board of Directors, the Chamber is proud to our Philadelphia Eagles as a dedicated, highly-engaged member.

The Chamber has been rooting for the Birds throughout the playoff season, getting into a bit of a competition ourselves. Jonathan Weinhagen, President & CEO of the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce waged a friendly bet with our President & CEO, Rob Wonderling. Always in for a little fun, we said "Game on!"

The Wager

If the Philadelphia Eagles were to beat the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship, the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce would ship the following to Philadelphia:

  • A Target Gift Card
  • Jack Links Beef Jerky
  • Six Pack of Surly Beer
  • Prince Album
  • A Box of Cheerios, and;
  • Weinhagen would wear an Eagles jersey on the Friday before the Super Bowl

If the Minnesota Vikings were to beat the Philadelphia Eagles, the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia would ship the following to Minneapolis:
  • TastyKakes
  • Yards Beer
  • Goldenberg Chews
  • Pat's Cheesesteaks
  • And more

The Outcome

As we all discovered on January 21, the Eagles pulled an upset and beat the Vikings 38 - 7. Being the good sports that they are, the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce stuck to their wager.

We're excited to have the Eagles in their hometown of Minneapolis (and we look forward to seeing Weinhagen in that Eagles jersey).

Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Wager

This past week, we were contacted by our peers at the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce for a similar bet. As always, we said "Game on!"

The Wager

If the Philadelphia Eagles were to beat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl LII:

  • Jim Rooney, President & CEO of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, will wear Eagles gear on Parade Day
  • The Greater Boston Chamber will send our CEO Rob Wonderling out for a lobster dinner at Legals

If the New England Patriots were to beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl LII:
  • Rob Wonderling, President & CEO of our Chamber, will wear Patriots gear on Parade Day
  • The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia will send a Philadelphia gift basket from the Pennsylvania General Store for our Boston counterparts to enjoy

The outcome

In an intense game, the Eagles became Super Bowl Champions on February 4, 2018. And Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce's Jim Rooney stuck to his word.

Go Birds!
