The Program
In June 2018, ten School District of Philadelphia sixth grade classes will participate in a half-day career experience at 21 prominent area businesses. Each class will be split in two to reduce class size allowing for more student/adult interaction.
The Proposed Agenda for the Day
9:00 – 10:00 AM: Student transportation to host companies
10:00 – 10:30 AM: Welcome and introductions to day and host company (including snack and bathroom break)
10:30 – 11:30 AM: Unique on-site interactive experience.
11:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Meetings and activities with HR and accounting professionals to understand what type of work they do and the education and experience needed for these jobs (as interactive and hands-on as possible)
12:00 – 12:30 PM: Lunch provided on site by the host company. Additional colleagues from the employer are encouraged to join the group to talk with the students
12:30 – 12:50 PM: Meeting and activity with marketing professionals to understand what type of work they do and the education and experience needed for these jobs (as interactive and hands-on as possible)
12:50 – 1:05 PM: Meeting / Q&A with C-Level Executive
1:05 – 1:15 PM: Students awarded participation certificates
1:15 – 1:30 PM: Student / teacher survey and closing remarks
1:30 – 2:15 PM: Students return to school
